The story so far:
Grammo is the result of a group of dedicated individuals with creative minds and a passion for cycling, merging technology with ingenuity. A manufacturer of
innovative wheels, frames and components, Grammo products were born from 4
cyclists whose collective knowledge and experience covers Olympic time trial,
Competitive road and Triathlon, industry
leading research and development and the finishing touch of eye catching style.
Understanding the need for
competitive edge is one thing, creating products to deliver that promise is
another.
For the last five years
Grammo have gradually turned that concept into a reality that includes wholly owned
and developed products that will deliver race advantage across the key areas of
weight, performance, and reliability.
In 2006 Grammo introduced
the Viper range of wheels and components to satisfy rider's needs for better
options on keenly priced performance carbon wheels and accessories. The line was well received with distribution
being picked up in all the key regions including Australia, Belgium, France,
Germany, USA, UK. There was no resting
on the laurels of that initial success as Grammo followed with the announcement
at Interbike 2007 of the ground breaking Factor wheels, a line of sophisticated
carbon race wheels designed to combine the benefits of CFD design and real time
wind tunnel testing with a deep understanding of actual vs virtual conditions.
The resulting 50mm race
wheels come in two versions, a TT variant with deep carbon spokes which
emulate a wheel of much greater depth while keeping the advantage of a lighter
shallower profile which does not suffer in cross winds. The ground breaking design was much acclaimed
and in the following years has been copied at least twice. The SL version is a similar concept aimed at
the road racer.
2008 saw the wheel line
broaden to include Track specific wheels, entry and premium level clincher
wheels, and a line of cyclocross specific wheels that again broke with the norm
of currently available wheels.
The same year saw the
launch of the F Series carbon wheels and components, aimed specifically at the
race market, this line is now the core of the Grammo range and the line where
all current development is focused.
Initially based on two new
rim designs the F5:4 and the F8:4 the wheels had been long in development and
heavily tested in both virtual and real environments in order to ensure that
the goals set at the beginning of the project were clearly met or exceeded.
2010 brings a whole host of
new developments and opportunities for the guys from New Zealand.
With a well established
line of wheels, bars and stems for the road market, the next area of interest
was mountain bikes, focused clearly on areas where knowledge and experience
gained in their core market could be transferred to achieve the same balance of
cost, performance and innovation.
An area of great interest
to the Grammo team had always been bike fit.
That edge gained by having the bike completely tuned to the individual
in order to gain optimum performance.
Grammo concluded that there was scope to enter this area and design
components and tools that would allow every rider the same access to the
ultimate race package that would normally only be achieved by professionals or
at high cost.
With this in mind the
concept of frame packages was conceived, but not just any frame package.
With their combined
knowledge of racing situations and of manufacturing and production techniques,
Grammo have been able to launch a range of frames with their own geometry where
emphasis is on Competitive advantage, Comfort (fit), and Carbon
technology. The resulting C3 designs
will now be rolled out into a range of both road and mountain bikes in areas
where demand for performance gain through technology will help Grammo to
continue to grow their product beyond the initial success of their wheels.
